ERASED

By KAZUHIRO MIYAGAWA

She was photographed. Catalogued. Filed under a barcode.

Then someone took a brush, removed her eyes. Stamped a serial number on her temple. Ran her through a photocopier until the grain ate her skin. She's still looking at you.

This one started as a 1960s portrait. In Kazu's hands it became a statement about identity, commodification, and what remains after everything else is stripped away.

Kazu is an award-winning collage artist working in Ōsaka. He works with found images, Xerox textures and X-Acto blades, and he doesn't name his work. He calls them moments, feelings.

The ŌSAKA SIX came out of the first ARTTEESHOW. open Artists Call: six works, one artist, one city, translated onto cloth without being tidied up on the way. ERASED is one of the six.

The piece

25 PIECES. NEVER REPRINTED.

Kazu made the artwork. We made it wearable. First on a tee, now on a sweatshirt: a snow-washed, oversized 360GSM crewneck in Jujube Red, the collage running large across the back and only the wordmark on the front. It's the first ARTTEESHOW. release that isn't a T-shirt. When the twenty-five are gone, it goes to the Vault.
